Morgan Webb hold the lead from Draw 1 with 91 points in the first round of the 2024 Nutrien Equine Classic.

🌅 Great evening of drafting as we finish the first round of the 2024 Nutrien Equine Classic Campdraft. Three scores of 89 added to the leaderboard but Morgan Webb held onto his lead from draw number 1 with 91 points.

Super Sunday wraps a Record Breaking Sale

Day four has finished strongly with mares averaging a whopping $53,666 with a 92% clearance rate.

Today’s sale top at $225,000 was four year old mare lot 607 KISS MY GRASS account of Bunyarra Park, Mr Todd Graham. The EB S PHALARISmare was from a great mare line out of ONE MOORE PLAYGIRL an own daughter of famed ONE MOORE SPIN. She sold to Strategies 4S- Equine.

Walcha local Ben McNaughton sold four year old mare lot 576 AMAC MRS BROWN (BROWN VICTORY X AMAC CONWAY) for $200,000 to repeat clients Evan and Kim Acton, Millungra station, Julia Creek.

Lot 648 INDIANAS CONSTANCE a lovely four year old  mare by HAZELWOOD CONGRESSMAN out oF WILLOWVALE DOT COM sold for $135,000 to Marcus and Shelly Curr, Yelvertoft Station, Mt Isa for vendor Mr Scott Heidke, Caboolture.

Four year old Gelding ONE STYLISH DESIRE in account of Phil Dawson and Bernadette Lucas sold for a stellar $94,000 to Sean and Sarah Dillon, Subiton Station. Also selling well in the gelding category was lot 586 BOY BOON on account of Ameila and Bill Servin, Barraba. The trained ONCE IN A BLUE BOON cutter was sold for $50,000 to Cashmere Cattle Co.

Topping the stallions for today was HAWKENTINEa four year old stud by CATTY HAWK on  account of Jason & Rachel Leitch, Springsure. The professionally started colt from ACRES DESTINY mare DESTINYS SURPENTINE sold for $57,500 to Georgia Marks.

Strong Saturday as Day 3 doesn’t disppoint breaking more records.

Day three hasn’t disappointed as the prices remain strong, clearances surge and gelding records broken. Let’s investigate today’s stats before we dive into the standouts.

Clearance of todays lots currently stands 89.10% and the average is $27,305.76, Gross for today’s sale is $3,795,500.

Topping today’s sale at $115,000 was the 4 year old colt lot 489 SHADES OF METALLIC. Sired by the American super sire METALLIC CAT from the DUAL REY mare NINE SHADES O REY on account of Barbara Williams, Sunkissed Quarter Horses, Purga, QLD. The standout colt boasted a strong performance pedigree with his dam being a multi placegetter and winner he was purchased by well-known cattleman and horseman Jack Mann of Mann Beef, Charters Towers.

Geldings today sold to a new sale record of $110,000, JEWELS METALLICAT account of Parker Investments. The impressive four year old gelding by the aforementioned METALLIC CAT from the Acres mare in DESTINYS FANCY JEWEL sold to Wagyu Trading Company Pty Ltd, Malbourough, QLD.

Laura McNaughton (nee Macintosh) has had another outstanding sale smashing her previous three year old Gelding record set in 2021 (at $38,000). Selling for a massive $88,000 Laura presented her special gelding AMAC FAIRYMAN by EB S PHALARIS who was snapped up by Wagyu Trading Company Pty Ltd, Malbourough, QLD. Described as one of her favourite foals who was nurtured throughout the drought Laura went on to say “Bruce, Julie and Ben have a special line of mares and I hope that I can do the justice and continue producing nice horses”.

Today’s mare topper selling for $95,000 was Lot 405 WESTLAKE EVELYN, vendor Parker Investments enjoyed another stellar sale in the own HAZELWOOD CONMAN daughter from ONE MOORE PLAYBOY mare JUPITER EVIE. The 4 year old bay, described as very pretty and super soft was purchased by Tony and Lindy Hick, Antrim Station, Hughenden, QLD.

Overall, the Nutrien Sale gross sits at $12,459,000 with a clearance of 87.66%. The fourth and final day of selling will commence tomorrow at 8am EDT with lots 521-653.

Momentum continued with solid prices on Day 2 of the 2023 Nutrien Classic Sale

Nutrien Sale day two has not lost the momentum gathered. Stepping into the Classic’s two, three and four year olds saw solid prices across all ages and sexes.

Topping today’s sale at $210,000 was an outstanding two year old chestnut colt Regent on account of Tom Williamson. The Metallic Rebel son is from one of Williamsons best One More Playboy mare lines and was snapped up by astute repeat clients Steve and Rebecca Cadzow, Mt Riddock Station Alice Springs.

Successful Classic vendors John and Jenn Corbett, Clear Hills, Adelong, NSW sold their two year old chestnut filly Lot 193 Yaven Annie Hotter for $200,000. The filly is by the deceased American super sire Hottish out the Metallic Cat mare Yaven Junebug, she was secured by Gavin Bulmer, Casino.

Late on day two, selling for $135,000 was the lovely three year old filly, Halo Springs Chiquita purchased by Ian Windsor, WEC Industries, Mellew Station, Barcaldine. The attractive palomino filly, consigned by Tsidkenu Pty Ltd, boasted impressive bloodlines being a full sister to the performed successful sire Beniah (BC Gigolo x Chickasha Stacey).

Salerno Pastoral, Clagiraba Qld, sold their two year old filly lot 248, Salerno Dreaming Jedda for $80,000 to Ray White Dalby. Dreaming Jedda is by renown sire Hazelwood Conman who’s progeny have dominated this week’s campdrafting results.

The three year old gelding market didn’t disappoint. Lot 298 KJA Mellow Meteles consigned by Kylie Graham was secured for $48,000 by Dom Shanahan of Shanahan Property Trust Barnawartha, Vic. The Meteles Cat gelding is from Ms Grahams most successful dam line which has proven each year to be sought after by repeat clients.

At the conclusion of day two, sale average is $32,982 with an 84% clearance and currently grossing $8,476 500. Day three will kick off at 8am EDT Saturday 4th February with lots 341-520.

2023 Nutrien Equine Classic has an explosive start with a day top of $400,000

In the 16 year history of the Nutrien Equine Classic we have not seen a first day of sale explode like today.

Top price today was the spectacular DUCKTACULAR, a 5yo mare by METALLIC CAT out of DASHING DUCKLING, she was started late by QLD Trainer Mark Buttsworth due to John Breklemans passing in 2019. A half-sister to one of the highest money earning mares in Australia, Ducks Dux, DUCKTACULAR was always going to be superstar and now she will be up in the record books.

Purchased by Nutrien Tamworth acting as Agent, she was sold today for $400,000 from Kathryn and Michael Vivers from Tinga NSW.

We look forward to following her story.

Today was definitely a day marked in Rodger Grant’s diary, as he purchased not one but three horses. Including top price gelding for the day, Lot 14 JACK REACHER for $96,000 from Dean & Julie Jones from Seymour in Victoria. Also a lovely chesnut mare at Lot 91 ROANIES INDEPENDENT ONE caught his eye and was purchased from Wally Rea CW Rea Investments for $46,000.

Then Rodger couldn’t resist the highly sort after, Lot 81 HELL OFA SORT, 5yo mare by SORTA SMOOTH out of ONE HELLOF A TIME, on account of Kirk and Tracey Nicholson from Douglas Park in NSW for $170,000.

And then to follow up, Lot 102 PEPPYPHLAIRE, a 6yo mare, by EB S PHALARIS out of YULGILBAR O PEPPY ROY.

PEPPYPHLAIRE was on account of LIGHTHOUSE STATION PTY LTD – OPEX, owned by the late Tom Straun and prepared by Mark Buttsworth.

Top Price Stallion of the first day of the Nutrien Equine Sale for 2023 was Lot 69 BROTHER TUFF WOOD on account of PA & KL Poole. This 11yo stallion is by NITAS WOOD out of TUFFS JUNIE and is a full sibling to famous US cutting horses JUNIE WOOD and stallion WOODY BE TUFF.

BROTHER TUFF WOOD was purchased by the TUFF SYNIDCATE, based out of Kootingal NSW.

Let’s have a snapshot of the stats as at end of Day One;

111 of 147 lots sold (75.51%)

Average: $39,391.89 / Gross: $4,372,500

Campdrafting is due to start at 7pm with the 3rd round of the National Campdraft Council of Australia Champion Rider and then the main event of the evening – the Final Round of the 2023 Nutrien Equine Classic Campdraft – worth $50,000 to the winner.

FULL SALES RESULTS :

Can you believe we are at $5.7 million dollars after one and a half days of sale for the 15th Nutrien Classic Sale. With 85.95% clearance we have had 208 of 242 horses sold with this mornings offering being a very strong start to the day.

We didn’t have to wait long with Lot 115 MATRON MAGGIE selling for $125,000 on account of WAYNE & RACHAEL BEAN. That certainly makes the long trip from the NT worth it and we are sure they are celebrating tonight. MATRON MAGGIE was purchased by Maree Duncombe & Jye Banks who are from Sunshine Coast in QLD.

This mare is by the late HARD HAT HENRY out of ONE MOORE ACRE and is the second highest open horse ever sold through the classic sale.

As we reported earlier the top selling mare of the day was in the 2 year old section at the highly anticipated Lot 257 YAVEN CHAMPAGNE ROMANCE selling to Peter & Shari Knudsen from Haymac Campdraft Horses for $260,000.00. Long time vendors John and Jenn Corbett from Adelong in NSW were ‘over the moon’ with how she went today and was beautifully presented by local trainer Hugh Miles.

The average overall at the end of day two was $27, 403.85.

There is over 100 horses that are $30,000 plus and it with the top five prices of the sale so far are mares just shows the commitment the industry is putting towards the mare lines.

GELDINGS – Day Two

91 of 101 lots sold (90.10%)

Average: $20,467.03

Top Price Gelding of the 2yo was Lot 244 STEVEY WONDERS on account of Tommy Williamson sold for $23,000. Lovely play on the name, being by the impressive STEVIE REY VON out of OAKS CHIME, who goes back to DOCS FRECKLE OAK on her top side.

He was purchased by local Chris Szafranski from Nemingha NSW.

Lot 182 SPINS FORTY NIAH a 5 year old gelding on account of Darrin Jones from Mount Perry in QLD is by BENIAH and out of SPIN PEPPY PAL. This lovely gelding was purchased by LT & BL Hindle for $50,000, from Highfields, near Toowoomba in QLD.

Lot 174 CHANCES ROYAL GUNG $46,000

Lot 126 REFLEXIONS OF DESTINY $38,000

STALLIONS Day Two

Top Price Lot 256 ROYALISH on account of Claire Murphy from Mt Isa, QLD,  sold to Goodwood Equine from Allorha in QLD for an amazing $72,000. This flashy stallion is by the champion cutting stallion HOTTISH and out of THIS ONES TIMELESS, who is by ONE TIME ROYALTY.

Lot 192 ELECTRIC DUCK $48,000

Lot 254 JUST A CAT $23,000

Open age horses sizzle under the hammer with a great first day of the 15th Nutrien Classic Campdraft Sale

What a great first half day of sale with Lot 1-100 under the hammer at the 15th sale of the Nutrien Classic. Buyers adapting to the new format with excellent bidding and prices for the 89 open age horses offered today. 75 horses were sold giving a clearance for day one of 84.27%. The gross for day one was outstanding at $1,921 million and averaged $25,613.33.

Lets dig into the top prices of the day. Top price mare is a fully trained cutting mare, Lot 35 MOORE BABY MOORE on account of Jacqueline Graham was sold to Sypher Family from Alpa in QLD. MOORE BABY MOORE is by NO MOORE ONE MOORE, out of a DOCS SPINIFEX mare SPINS REQUEST.

Second top price was popular Lot 67 SIX MOONS SASSY on account of the Lindley family CJL Performance Horses from Gundagai NSW and presented by Claire Lindley. This lovely ONE STYLISH PEPTO mare was purchased for $66,000 by Bettina Peters and was sure to break a few hearts today. Congratulations to Bettina on her purchase as well as Lot 16 MY FAVORITE HUG, for $48,000.

Top Price Gelding was the apptly named HELL IM SMART, Lot 81 on account of Amelia and Billy Servin from Wandoan QLD. HELL IM SMART is by HELLREYCIOUS and out of ERIN CRACKIN SMARTIE and would have had a few ticks by buyers with three crosses of DOCS SPINIFEX in his pedigree. Purchased by Sasha Mylrea from Gogango in the Rockhampton region, Qld.

$30,000 was the top open age stallion, Lot 58 AMAROO MR BLUE BOON on account of Dave and Sharna Worsfold also from Wandoan in QLD. Sold to long time classic supporter David and Emma Kalisch from Forbes in central NSW.
