The Slot Auction – Buy Your Slot
The Hayden will be Qld’s pathway into the $2.1m TAB Eureka. Named after one of Australia’s greatest ever test batsmen in Matthew Hayden, the race will honour a much loved and highly regarded Queenslander, who is known for his grit, determination and strength. As part of Qld’s aim to continue to innovate the Hayden will be a Slot race, with slots purchased via auction at the Sunshine Stars Yearling sale on February 11. The prizemoney for the race will be $100,000 plus, with money raised via the Auction added to the $100,000 seed funding contributed by Racing Queensland.
When – Sunday February 11 @ approximately 3pm at the conclusion of the Sunshine Stars Yearling Sale (complimentary beer, wine and soft drink vouchers will be offered throughout the sale for redemption during the Slot Auction)
Where – Sunshine Stars Yearling Sale at Albion Park or via live stream access via the Nutrien Equine website.
Auctioneer – Nutrien Equine
Vendor – Racing Queensland
How – Slots will be auctioned at the Sunshine Stars Yearling Sale at approx. 3pm following the conclusion of the yearling sale. Instead of having set prices for each slot, the 10 barriers (slots) for The Hayden will be auctioned off, with the auction proceeds being added to RQ’s $100,000 seed funding. This way those who purchase the better barriers will theoretically have to pay more for the privilege and contribute more to the overall prizemoney. To emulate the preferential barrier draw required for the race i.e. PBD Age/Sex, while also providing successful bidders with certainty when choosing their horse post auction, the horse requirements for each barrier have been predetermined as outlined in the following table. Slot holders must choose/nominate a horse as per the conditions of each barrier.
Conditions of the Auction include:
Bidding registration via Nutrien Equine either online or on the day at the Sales Office
One Slot per Registered Bidder
RQ to invoice successful slot holders
Slot Holders cannot be a TAB competing wagering entity
Purchasing a Slot only entitles the Slot Holder to an entrant in the 2024 edition of The Hayden
Slot Holders are required to sign the Slot Holder Agreement
Slot prices are plus GST

After The Slot Auction
Successful Slot Holders will then turn their attention to choosing/negotiating a horse to nominate to race in their slot in the Hayden which will be run at Albion Park on July 20. The winner will then graduate to compete in $2.1m Eureka where they will race for the Slot Holder, Owners and RQ’s charity partner Shoreline.
