2023 Nutrien Equine Classic has an explosive start with a day top of $400,000

In the 16 year history of the Nutrien Equine Classic we have not seen a first day of sale explode like today.

Top price today was the spectacular DUCKTACULAR, a 5yo mare by METALLIC CAT out of DASHING DUCKLING, she was started late by QLD Trainer Mark Buttsworth due to John Breklemans passing in 2019. A half-sister to one of the highest money earning mares in Australia, Ducks Dux, DUCKTACULAR was always going to be superstar and now she will be up in the record books.

Purchased by Nutrien Tamworth acting as Agent, she was sold today for $400,000 from Kathryn and Michael Vivers from Tinga NSW.

We look forward to following her story.

Today was definitely a day marked in Rodger Grant’s diary, as he purchased not one but three horses. Including top price gelding for the day, Lot 14 JACK REACHER for $96,000 from Dean & Julie Jones from Seymour in Victoria. Also a lovely chesnut mare at Lot 91 ROANIES INDEPENDENT ONE caught his eye and was purchased from Wally Rea CW Rea Investments for $46,000.

Then Rodger couldn’t resist the highly sort after, Lot 81 HELL OFA SORT, 5yo mare by SORTA SMOOTH out of ONE HELLOF A TIME, on account of Kirk and Tracey Nicholson from Douglas Park in NSW for $170,000.

And then to follow up, Lot 102 PEPPYPHLAIRE, a 6yo mare, by EB S PHALARIS out of YULGILBAR O PEPPY ROY.

PEPPYPHLAIRE was on account of LIGHTHOUSE STATION PTY LTD – OPEX, owned by the late Tom Straun and prepared by Mark Buttsworth.

Top Price Stallion of the first day of the Nutrien Equine Sale for 2023 was Lot 69 BROTHER TUFF WOOD on account of PA & KL Poole. This 11yo stallion is by NITAS WOOD out of TUFFS JUNIE and is a full sibling to famous US cutting horses JUNIE WOOD and stallion WOODY BE TUFF.

BROTHER TUFF WOOD was purchased by the TUFF SYNIDCATE, based out of Kootingal NSW.

Let’s have a snapshot of the stats as at end of Day One;
