How to improve a page – win and keep winning 2023 SYDNEY SALE COUNTDOWN

When Tim Neven was sent the original proof for Lot 7 back in October 2022 the Art Major x Annas Innocent gelding Mea Culpa had a 1:58.2 record and seven wins and $58,960 to his credit.
After his win at Pinjarra yesterday for trainer Nathan Turvey and driver Kyle Symington Mea Culpa now has a record of 1:54.0, 14 wins and $109,609 in stakes.
Lot 7 is a colt by American Ideal and being from a mare by Bettors Delight he is bred on the same cross as star WA pacer Magnificent Storm p,1:53.0 $617,217.
Former Australian3yo Filly of the Year Innocent Eyes is the grand-dam of Mea Culpa and her unraced Art Major daughter Without Guile is the dam of Bondi Lockdown which is second emergency for this week’s Miracle Mile after finishing third behind Spirit Of St Louis and Hurricane Harley in last week’s Schweppes Sprint.
Similar improvement has happened in the record of the Modern Art mare Fuller Vee Em which is the dam of Lot 59 – a colt by A Rocknroll Dance.
At the first proof stage in October the vendor Brooklyn Lodge as Agent for Lot 59 was sent a proof showing that Fuller Vee Em was the dam of two winners with the best of them Our Money Rocks having ten wins and stakes of $96,373 to his name.
Since then Our Money Rocks has won six races including his last five on a Saturday night at Menangle and he has now won 16 races and $157,565 and has every chance of adding to his record in the opening race on Miracle Mile night this Saturday.
In addition Fuller Vee Em has produced a third winner in Wheres The Money has won its last two starts at Albion Park and taken a record of 1:54.7 in the process.
Lots 7 and 59 are classic examples of the benefit of the Nutrien catalogue innovation of having weekly updates on their website.
The additional innovation of a QR code on each catalogue page means it is easy for potential purchasers to access the updated details for a particular lot.
Using a mobile phone camera to scan the QR code takes a person straight to the on-line reference to the particular lot being scanned and the updated pedigree and any photos and or video that apply to that lot are instantly available.
The days of a static yearling sale catalogue are gone and if you spot somebody on sale day looking at their phone the odds are they are checking for updates and not texting somebody!

Now a winner producer

The win of Our Uncle Nev at Parkes on Wednesday night for trainer Chris Frisby gave his sire Sportswriter his 598th Southern Hemisphere winner.

More importantly the win provided his New Zealand bred dam Magical Mocca p,1:59.3 with her first winner.

Our Uncle Nev is Magical Mocca’s second foal and her third is an Art Major colt being offered by Ashdon Valley Racing Pty Ltd as Lot 639 in the Nutrien Melbourne Yearling Sale which gets under way on April 1st.

Lot 639 is bred on a successful cross which has produced some 73 winners in Australia and New Zealand including twelve $100,000 earners headed by Group Two Queensland Cup winner Mach Da Vinci p,1:51.1 $344,127 and last Friday night’s Gloucester Park winner Mirragon p,3,1:54.9 $272,675.

Magical Mocca is a half-sister to Gunpowder p,1:51.0 $342,506 and a full-sister to Secrets Out p,1:52.6 $243,502.

Secrets Out is currently at stud in the USA and her first two foals are both winners headed by the American Ideal mare King Princess p,3,1:56.2 $52,807.

Nutrien – the only place in Australia to buy a yearling by Captaintreacherous in 2023

Captaintreacherous was Australia’s Leading Sire of 2yos (Prizemoney) last season with 62 starters which produced 36 winners of 84 races and $1,659,129 with average earnings per starter of $26,760.

His 3yo crop produced 52 starters for 38 winners of 130 races and 3yo stakes of $1,695,700 with average earnings of $33,249 per starter.

In terms of average earners per starter (10+ starters) Captaintreacherous was the standout sire of both 2yo and 3yo in this category.

There are eight yearling sales remaining to be held across Australia in the coming weeks and if you are a prospective purchaser of a yearling by Captaintreacherous you need to look no further than a Nutrien Sale.

There are 27 yearlings by Captaintreacherous available for purchase with 19 in the Nutrien Sydney Sale, five in the Nutrien Melbourne Sale and three in the Nutrien Sunshine Stars Sale on the Gold Coast.

There are no yearlings by Captaintreacherous in any other yearling sale scheduled to be held in Australia this season.

It doesn’t matter if you are looking for a colt or a filly by this remarkable stallion as he sires quality of both sexes as evidenced by his top earner Tough Tilly being a filly and Australia’s most exciting prospect after last week’s racing being the 4yo stallion Captain Ravishing.

Captain Ravishing destroyed his opposition in the $100,000 4yo Bonanza at Melton last Saturday to qualify for the $250,000 Group One Chariots of Fire at Menangle on February 18th.

Should he win the Chariots Of Fire not only will his profile life even further but it would’t be unreasonable for yearlings by Captaintreacherous to become even more sought after.

The 2023 Nutrien Yearling Sale catalogue has an index by sire and the on-line version can be sorted by sire to make it easier to identify those lots by your favourite sire.
