Pedigree Updates this week from Central West, Cranbourne, Newcastle and Hamilton!

Nothing more Australian than red ochre

For a little over 20 years the city of Dubbo in New South Wales has run the Red Ochre Mares Classic and on Friday night the Bettors Delight mare Myra Dawn took out the $30,000 Group Three event for trainer Steve Turnbull and provided young reinsman Justin Reynolds with his first ever Group winner.
The 2023 Nutrien Sydney Yearling Sale will see Brooklyn Lodge, acting as agent, offer a Rock N Roll Heaven half-sister to Myra Dawn as Lot 202.
Myra Dawn has now won 18 races and has stakemoney earnings of $226,678 and she is a full-sister to Art Series p,1:51.9 $191,750 and a three-quarter sister to last week’s NSW Breeders Challenge Western Region final winner Saint Veran p,3,1:525.4 $105,895.
Take a moment to check out Lot 202 online as the page has more red ink than an accountant’s balance sheet with the difference being that red is used to highlight updates to the pedigree.

Meat in the sandwich

Saturday night at Cranbourne was Cup night and saw the Group One Cranbourne Trotters Cup and Group One Cranbourne Pacing Cup run.
Between those two feature races was the $20,000 Aidan Graham Memorial which was taken out by the Andy Gath trained Sanday.
It was Sanday’s 11th win and lifted his earnings to $141,340.
Lot 581 in the 2023 Nutrien Melbourne Yearling Sale is a Betting Line half-brother to Sanday and two other winners.
Their dam Ezee Duzit Lombo was a winner of 12 races herself while the grand-dam of Lot 581 won a Bathurst Gold Bracelet as a 3yo.

Now a winner producer

When the Betting Line gelding Young Bluey impressively won the 2yo race at Hamilton on Sunday for trainer/driver Matthew Craven he rated a slick 1:55.9 for the 1660 metres.
Young Bluey’s dam Lots A Blue also became a winner producer and focussed attention on Lot 110 in the 2023 Nutrien Sydney Yearling Sale.
Lot 110 is a filly by former superstar racehorse Lazarus whose first Southern Hemisphere crop will grace local racetracks in 2023.
This filly’s grand-dam Kaseba is a full-sister to Newcastle Mile winner Hexus p,1:55.0 $555,199 and a half-sister to the dam of Stars Align p,1:48.0 $668,813.

Now dam of four winners

Another new Betting Line 2yo winner on the weekend was the filly Miss Obahma which got rid of her maiden tag with a win at Newcastle on Friday night for trainer KerryAnn Morris.
Miss Obahma covered the mile in 1:58.1.
The win gives Miss Obahma’s dam Obahma Joy a perfect four from four for the four foals she has of racing age.
Obahma Joy won the 4yo NSW Breeders Challenge on her way to 12 career wins and stakes of $180,618 while her half-brothers Kingofthestars p,1:52.6 and Make Mine Joe p,1:56.3 also each earned in excess of $100,000. Check out Lot 153 in our Sydney sale prepared by Success Stud, (Always B Miki USA x Obahma Joy).
