2nd Generation Classic Sale Wins Challenge Tonight!

Nathan Wilson and MITCHELLS CONTUCKY continued their dominance of the Prydes EasiFeed Performance Horse challenge taking out the win tonight with 335 total points. The HAZELWOOD CONMAN entire is owned by Darrin Jones, who purchased the colt from the 2019 Classic sale for $33,000. Interestingly Contucky is a second generation Classic purchase as his dam DUCKNDAISY was sold by the late John Brecklmans at the 2014 Classic sale.

In addition to the big cheque, he will be taking home a custom stock trailer from Navaho Trailers. We thank Peel and Jody Tribe for their generous sponsorship and this is the 8th trailer that they have made for this event. The winner also recieve a service fee to Boonara Mentor proudly donated by Huon and Colleen Smith, a Mavericks Western Wear voucher and a trophy rug from Easy on Rugs.

Placing second was CANTAUR DADDY DEALER, owned by Geoffery Porges, ridden by Morgan Webb, with a score of 327.50. The ONE MOORE DADDY stallion was also sold in 2019 for $32,000 from Gayle and Mac Shann.

Weather matching the hot competition for the second round of the 2022 Classic Campdraft.

Competitors did very well with the warm conditions this afternoon that saw Mac Shann riding HAZEL’S GIFT, score a 89 to back up his first round score of 91 to lead the competition into the final on Thursday night.

Top score of the afternoon went to Jackson Noon riding SAMAL FREDDY with 90 points. [22 64 4]
Jackson purchased SAMAL FREDDY in 2020 for $5,000 from Sam and Hallie Knight.

Final will be held on Thursday evening for the big cheque!

Open Final to be hotly contested with four on 180 points

Our first event on the day has wrapped up with four riders on 180 points heading into the final of the Martins Stock Haulage Open.

Kate Southern scored a 91 points to top the second round on SHESA BLUE BADGER [24 63 4].

Hugh Miles riding TIMES UP, owned by Peter Shumack ran a 90 this morning and will be looking to place one better this year after coming second in 2021. [22 64 4]

Closely behind was Mat Holz with 89 points on TARRAWAY GRACE, owned by Fiona DiPetta [21 64 4] and Luke Cheney riding BRAVEHEART, owned by Noel Cheney [21 64 4].

Hot afternoon for the second half of the first round of the classic and now we have our draw for the second round up on the website as well.

Will Durkin riding BRADLEYS ROMANCED, owned by Charli Curr, joined the 90 club with [22 64 4]. BRADLEYS ROMANCED was sold by R&R Livestock in 2020 for $30,000.

Luke Bennett also scored 90 points, riding PEELVALE CHICS WISH, who was purchased by, TMP Saddles, out of the 2018 Willinga Park Breed for the Future Sale for $21,000 from Hugh Miles. [23 63 4]

The Second half of the Pryde’s EasiFeed Australian Performance Horse Challenge saw trainer Nathan Wilson riding MITCHELLS CONTUCKY, owned by Darrin Jones, have the top score of the day with a 89.5.

Emma O’Shea riding NARLEY FRUITBAY, had a strong showing this morning with a 86.5.

We can’t wait to see the final tomorrow night inside.

 

88 and Up for the Final of the Young Guns

Once again the exceptional cattle from Ellerston Pastoral Company meant that the Charlie Maher Memorial Young Guns had a fantastic morning of campdrafting. 91 points was the top score for Lachie Tyler riding SQUIRT, owned by Kristy Taylor. [21 66 4]

As per previous years, if you don’t get 88 and up you won’t be in the final! Each and every year this competition is fiercely contested.

Thank you to judge Lachie Maxwell, who has been a part of the Classic team from the beginning 15 years ago and was also a close friend of Charlie Maher. There is no better person to be overseeing these future champions in this competition.

Leah Read leads the way with a 84.25 in the first round of the Prydes EasiFeeds Performance Horse Challenge

We kick off Day Three here at the Nutrien Classic inside with the second round of the Prydes EasiFeeds Australian Performance Horse Challenge, lets check out the top scores from yesterdays round one.

Leah Read had a beautiful pattern with G&S Salmonds from Clermont, BANSHEE DARLIN ACRES. They put together a great run to score 84.25. BANSHEE DARLIN ACRES was purchased for $37,000 from Dan Steers in 2021.

Scoring 82.25 was Queensland Competitor Mark Buttsworth riding ALMORA SPRING, owned by Geoffrey Porges. ALMORA SPRING was purchased in 2020 also from Dan Steers for $35,000. Dan must be chuffed with two horses he sold leading the Challenge after Round One.

Dan Lindley riding SERENE ROMANCE owned by Jeremy Storrier, scored 81.5 and Nathan Wilson riding MITCHELL CONTUCKY owned by Darrin Jones, scored 81.25.

Yesterday’s announcement of the Harness Racing Australia Awards for 2021 is a time for back-slapping all round as we celebrate the very best in Australian Harness Racing.
Nutrien Equine Standardbred congratulates all winners and in particular our vendors who continue to breed at the elite level.
As a result of yesterday’s announcement, we have had a number of Lots in the 2022 Nutrien Yearling Sale that required updating.

Champion filly Ladies In Red p,2,1:51.9 $569,500 was named Australian 3yo Filly Pacer of the Year as a follow-on to her 2yo Filly Pacer of the Year Title in 2020.
Her three-quarter sister Someone To Love is the dam of Lot 12 which is an American Ideal half-sister to 2021 2yo winner Amami p,2,1:57.2 and 2021 3yo winner Curly James p,3,1:58.2.
Lot 12 is the third foal from the mare and Benstud NSW is preparing this filly for vendor John McGeechan.

Lot 24 CONSIGNED BY GSM RACING PREPARED BY RICKIE ALCHIN HARNESS RACING
The dam of Lot 24 is Ultimate Daiquiri tr,1:59.7 who is a half-sister to Australian Aged Trotter of the Year Majestic Man tr,1:53.5 $636,930.
Majestic Man is a son of Majestic Son who was again both Australia’s and New Zealand’s Leading Trotting Sire in 2021 for both winners and stakemoney won.
Lot 24 is by Majestic Son and is being sold by GSM Racing Pty Ltd and this yearling is being prepared by Rickie Alchin who can be contacted on 0400122281 to arrange inspection.

Lot 168 CONSIGNED BY RHIANNON PARK
Just A Bit Touchy tr,2,1:59.3 $77,380 took out the award for Australian 2yo Trotting Filly of the Year and Lot 168 is a full-sister being by Father Patrick from Gypsy Flair.
Gypsy Flair also produced the 2020 Australian 2yo Trotting Filly of the Year in Banglez tr,1:57.8 $121,380.
Her third foal is chasing a hat-trick of awards in 2022 and her fourth foal will be entering the sale ring in a couple of months’ time.

Lot 200 CONSIGNED BY DURHAM PARK STANDARDBREDS
The Australian 3yo Colt Pacer of the Year title went to Act Now p,2,1:53.2 $469,535 who took out the title on the back of wins in the heat and final of the Victoria Derby and a heat, semi-final, and final of the Australasian Breeders Crown.
Congratulations to our vendor Durham Park who will offer an Art Major half-brother to Act Now as Lot 200 in the Melbourne Nutrien Yearling Sale.
This colt with an almost exclusively American pedigree can be inspected by contacting preparer Jaimee Lee King on 0498 123 791.

Lot 210 CONSIGNED BY TYSON LINKE
Encipher p,2,1:54.9 $278,358 capped a remarkable debut season when she took out the Australian 2yo Filly Pacer of the Year Award when her five wins included a pair of Group One victories in the Australasian Breeders Crown and The Allwood in Adelaide.
Lot 210 in the Nutrien Melbourne Yearling Sale is a half-sister to Encipher being by Betting Line from the Falcon Seelster mare Our Cavort and this filly is just the mares second foal.

In addition we should acknowledge King Of Swing p,1:48.0 $2,490,246 which was yesterday named Australian Harness Horse of the Year and Australian Pacer of the Year.
It was the second time this remarkable son of Rocknroll Hanover has won both awards.
King Of Swing appears under the third dam of Lot 100 as does his half-sister Bettor Twist p,3,1:52.1 $577,734 which won the Group One Queen Of Hearts at Auckland last month.
The remarkable trotting mare Pink Galahs tr,1:54.2 $330,174 was yesterday named Australian Aged Trotting Mare of the Year to go with her 3yo Trotting Filly of the Year Award for the previous season.
Pink Galahs appears under the third dam of Lot 124, Lot 135 and Lot 189.

92 Points in the first round of the Nutrien Equine Classic Campdraft

The second day of the 2022 Nutrien Classic was a display of fantastic drafting with outstanding cattle from the Turnbull family, Upper Horton and Ben McNaughton representing Glenbuddah Pastoral Company from Walcha.

The second half of the first round of the Martins Stock Haulage Open picked up where it left off yesterday with some great runs.

Ted Fogarty riding ONE HELL OF A SONG [22 65 4] and John Mitchell riding CHICKENMAN [23 64 4], joined the 91 crowd from yesterday. This means that there will be seven heading into the second round with a 91 score. Great cattle means great scores and there is also twelve on 90 points and 26 on 89. We can’t wait to see the second round!

Mark Ruff riding SUE owned by Jo Boddy and Mark & Shelley Ruff, held onto the top cut out over the whole first round with a 24. Thanks to Judge Cameron Lee for doing such a great job with a huge draft.

The first round of the Nutrien Classic was a pleasure to watch. Mark Barton said “It was a display of extraordinary campdraft from such young horses. We thank Matt and Kylie Weber for trucking the cattle for the Classic again this year all the way from Geurie. The results proved well worth the effort and we thank them for providing us with such good cattle”.

Dan Condon blitzed the first round of the Nutrien Equine Classic on a very warm afternoon with a 92 point score riding ROYAL CROWN WHISKEY owned by LE & CD Stewart. [23 65 4]. ROYAL CROWN WHISKEY was purchased from SDM Quarter Horses in 2021 for $48,000.

Close behind was Mac Shann on HAZEL’S GIFT, owned by Mac & Gayle Shann with 91 points. Mac & Gayle bought HAZEL’S GIFT in 2019 $56,000 from Ahern Asset Trust. Will be exciting to see them in round two.
