This weekend’s Nutrien Melbourne Yearling Sale is the last opportunity in 2022 for buyers to purchase a Bettors Delight yearling in the Southern hemisphere.
On Friday night in Auckland he showed Bettors Delight had lost none of his dominance as a stallion when he produced the quadrella in the Group One Northern Oaks and the quinella in the Group One Northern Derby.
The Northern Oaks saw the Mark Purdon and Hayden Cullen trained True Fantasy beat Lady Of The Light, Cover Girl and First Rose.
The win was True Fantasy’s ninth in 15 career starts and took her earnings to $445,467 for owner Jean Feiss.
There are five Bettors Delight yearlings in the Nutrien Sale – three colts and two fillies and significantly Lot 236 is the first foal from the Mach Three mare Sharing The Love.
Lot 236 is consigned by Woodlands Stud which is the downunder home for Bettors Delight.
True Fantasy is bred identically to Lot 236 being by Bettors Delight out of a Mach Three mare but the pedigree is even more closely aligned than that.
True Fantasy’s grand-dam is by Walton Hanover while Lot 236 has a grand-dam which is a daughter of Group One 2yo Vicbred Super Series winner Jadah Rose which is by a son of Walton Hanover in Totally Ruthless.
The second Bettors Delight filly to be offered next week is the first foal out of the Art Major mare Perfect Sense p,1:55.5 $143,530 which is being offered by Durham Park.
Cover Girl p,2,1:57.4 $168,643, the third placegetter in Friday’s Northern Oaks, is out of the Art Major mare Sossusvlei and she won the Group Two Caduceus Club Stakes on March 4th with True Fantasy back in fourth place that night.
If you prefer a Bettors Delight colt then there are three worthy of inspection.
The Northern Derby, incidentally sponsored by Woodlands Stud, saw the Bettors Delight quinella in Akuta and Bollinger both out of mares by Christian Cullen – the golden cross of Australasian Standardbred breeding in the past decade with 329 winners including seven millionaires and 97 $100,000 earners.
Durham Park will offer a colt by Bettors Delight from the Christian Cullen mare Ultimate CC who has already produced three winners including Cee Cee In America p,1:53.0 $111,705. Lot 248 is the result of her first mating with Bettors Delight.
Lot 211, on account of Benstud Standardbreds is a full brother to Beckham which had his second start on Friday night in Auckland when he finished second to the unbeaten Merlin in the $67,000 Group Two Cardigan Bay Stakes.
Merlin, by Art Major, is unbeaten in four starts while Beckham is out of an Art Major mare in Our Golden Goddess p,1:53.1 $442,410.
If you are a fan of the Bettors Delight over an Art Major mare cross which has produced 70 winners then Lot 126 is certainly worth a look in that he is by Bettors Delight out of the Perfect Art mare Art Start.
This cross has produced 19 winners and it is certainly worth bearing in mind that Perfect Art is a full-brother to Art Major.
Lot 126 is a half-brother to four winners including Expensive Ego p,1:48.6 $816,317 which won the 2021 Chariots Of Fire and was runner-up in both the Miracle Mile and Inter Dominion Final in 2021.
