A stormy day on the Gold Coast for the 2023 Sunshine Stars with some outstanding highlights for the top price horses of the sale and a number of yearlings that we are sure will be sold after the sale and increase the clearance rate.
Top Price of the day came with the first horse to be sold, Lot 246 consigned and prepared by Brittany Graham from Biddaddaba, QLD. First season sire CAPTAIN CRUNCH USA continued his run at the top of the yearling sale results. Lot 246 was a 2021 CAPTAIN CRUNCH colt out of the BETTORS DELIGHT MARE, LETS GO ONE BETTOR NZ.
Purchased by Ladbrokes Racing Co, we will be sure to follow ‘Carlo’s’ journey through the racing series of the Sunshines Stars and Nutrien Classic Pacing Series.
Also selling for $80,000 was Lot 279 – a bay colt by last season’s Leading 2yo Sire SWEET LOU USA from the ROCK N ROLL HEAVEN USA mare ROCK ON NZ – which was purchased by Michael Boots.

Honours for the top priced fily went to Menangle consignor Rickie Alchin Harness Racing which sold Lot 267 for $75,000 to Queenslander Jack Butler and the Qbred eligible daughter of Stay Hungry USA and the Rocknroll Hanover USA mare will remain in Queensland for the start of her racing career.
Stay Hungry USA, a son of Somebeachsomewhere USA, was another of the first season sires and the support for him this season is hardly surprising as he was the USA’s Leading First Season Sire in 2022.
