Volstead making an impact

The 2022 Nutrien Yearling Sale saw the first crop of the imported American stallion Volstead offered and he has made an impact as those yearlings commenced racing earlier this year.

He is currently Australia’s leading First Season 2yo sire of trotters with his 11 starters this season already producing five individual winners.

The fifth of those winners was the filly Maoris Mac which won the 2yo Trotting Fillies heat of the Nutrien Trotting Sales Classic at Kilmore on Thursday.

Bred by Gary Toulmin, Maoris Mac was trained and driven by David Aiken and downed outsider No Telling Heather and the ultra short-priced favourite The Priestess.

All of the trotters races which make up the Nutrien Trotting Sales Classics are sponsored by Haras des Trotteurs which through principal Pat Driscoll were responsible for importing Volstead to the Southern Hemisphere.
