John & Jenn Corbett: A Legacy of Excellence in Breeding and Performance Horses

John and Jenn Corbett have made an indelible mark on the Australian performance horse industry. Their commitment to breeding, training, and selling top-tier horses has earned them a reputation for excellence. With a strong foundation in the breeding of performance horses, their journey with the Classic began in 2008 and, in a relatively short period, they achieved significant success in sales and competition results. The Corbett’s achievements are highlighted by a total of $1,093,500 in sales from 29 lots catalogued, a remarkable feat that speaks to the quality of their horses. Every year when the Corbett’s bring horses to be sold they have always sold, John and Jenn have never passed a horse in through the ring, which indicates the quality of their horses and the high demand there is for the Yaven horses.

A Strong Foundation

The Corbett’s breeding program was built on a vision of producing horses that excel not only in the sales ring but also in high-level competition. One of their most significant accomplishments is their ownership of One Moore Romance, a mare that has become a foundation of their breeding program. One Moore Romance has proven herself time and time again in the arena, and her progeny have carried on her legacy of excellence.

Record-Breaking Sales

The success of the Corbett’s breeding program is perhaps best demonstrated through the record-breaking sales at the Nutrien Classic Sales. In 2022, they achieved one of their highest milestones with Yaven Champagne Romance, a 2-year-old that sold for $260,000—the highest-priced 2-year-old at the sale. This remarkable achievement is just one example of how John and Jenn have consistently produced top-tier horses that attract the attention of buyers.

The Corbett’s also achieved record-breaking sales in 2019 and 2018. Yaven Smooth Spin set a new record when she sold for $230,000 at the Landmark Classic Sale, and in 2018, Yaven Spinacat broke records again, selling for $130,000. These sales not only reflected the quality of the horses but also the reputation that John and Jenn had built as breeders of high-calibre performance horses.

Breeding Champions for the Future

The success of the Corbett’s horses extends beyond sales figures. Their horses have consistently performed at the highest level in competitions. Notably, they bred Yaven Smooth Sailing, the 2nd placegetter in the 2021 Classic with rider Matt Moffat. They also bred two horses that placed in the 2024 Young Guns Campdraft, with Yaven Freestyler and Yaven Moore Chrome both finishing in 8th place, ridden by Jack Black and Claire Lindley, respectively. These results show that the Corbett’s breeding program continues to produce horses with the ability to compete at the highest levels.

Additionally, their horse Yaven Moore Ice placed 10th in the 2023 Open Campdraft, further proving the Corbett’s ability to produce versatile and competitive horses across various disciplines. These results are a testament to the consistency and quality that the Corbett’s have maintained in their breeding program.

Their breeding program has had a impact on the performance horse scene, with their horses excelling in both sales and competition.
