Fremantle Cup a good result for Lot 422
In December, Harness Racing Australia made a decision to drop New Zealand races from the Australian Grand Circuit and to reinstate the $300,000 Group One Fremantle Cup as a leg of the Grand Circuit.
On Friday night at Gloucester Park history was made as 22yo driver Emily Suvaljko became the first woman to win the Fremantle Cup in the 94 year history of the race.
Emily drove the race of her life to land Mighty Ronaldo a narrow but impressive winner over the 2022 Fremantle Cup winner Minstrel.
Mighty Ronaldo is trained at Boyanup by 34yo Justin Prentice and Friday’s win was his 27th Group One win as a trainer. He has now trained 693 winners of $9,945,183 in stakes.
Justin selected Mighty Ronaldo as a yearling and Friday’s win was the gelding’s tenth in 35 career starts that have garnered $564,396 in stakes.
Suvaljko began working in Prentice’s stable a couple of month’s ago and Friday was her 488th winner and she has now driven the winners of $5,115,431.
