2022 Yearling Sales, Standardbred

A superlative record of Group 1 success

A superlative record of Group 1 success

By Peter Wharton

When Aldebaran Zeus won the Breeders Crown 3YO Colts and Geldings’ Final at Melton in November he became the second winner of the prestigious Group 1 race bred and reared at Aldebaran Park stud, Nagambie.

He joined Kyvalley Kyrie who took out the Breeders Crown 2YO Fillies’ Final five years earlier.

Aldebaran Zeus and Kyvalley Kyrie both won Vancleve Awards for Trotter of the Year in their respective age groups.

The dual Vicbred champion Aldebaran Eve, Aldebaran Ursula (NSW Trotters Oaks), Aldebaran Crescent (Lyn McPherson Memorial), Aldebaran Misty (Vicbred Homegrown Classic), Aldebaran Walkabout (USA Bluegrass Stakes), Aldebaran Poppy and Hotjane Bling are other Group winners bred, raised and/or sold by Aldebaran Park.

Other smart trotters to first see the light of day at the Goulburn Valley nursery include Fear Not, Aldebaran Tess, On Fast Forward, Breezin Around, Aldebaran Midnite, Bee A Lassie, Aldebaran Kiri and many others.

Since being established in 2004 by Duncan McPherson, Aldebaran Park has been one of market leaders in the field of breeding straightout trotters in both the sales ring and on the racetrack.

On Sunday, Aldebaran Park has entered a dozen superbly bred youngsters by 10 different sires at the Nutrien Equine Standardbred Yearling Sale at Oaklands Junction.
